U.S. Veterans Aid & Attendance Pension Program

If you or your loved one served time in the U.S. military during a period of war, this benefit can help pay for home healthcare and medical expenses.  This benefit awards monthly cash benefits to Veterans or their widows up to the following amounts:

Married Veteran  /  $1,949 per month tax free
Single Veteran  /  $1,644 per month tax free
Widow of a Veteran  /  $1,056 per month tax free

​To qualify, a Veteran must have:

  • served 90 consecutive days of active military duty;
  • been awarded a discharge better than dishonorable
  • served a minimum of 1 day active duty during a war period (no requirement that service was performed in a combat zone).​
  • certification by a physician stating assistance is needed with his/her activities of daily living.

To qualify​, a Widow must have:

  • not remarried after the Veteran's death.
  • certification by a physician stating assistance is needed with his/her activities of daily living.

To qualify as a Veteran or Widow, the household must have:

  • less than $80,000 in allowable countable assets (VA discretion)
  • ​an adjusted household income less than the Aid and Attendance benefit. (gross income minus unreimbursed recurring medical expenses)
